Privacy Policy

Definitions

Individual” means a person who has provided personal information to the Campaign.

“Campaign” means the pharmacies matter campaign, conducted by the RCC.

PIPA” means Personal Information Protection Act (British Columbia).

RCC” means Retail Council of Canada.

Application

This policy applies to the information the Campaign collects, uses and discloses.

Collection and Use Personal

RCC will only collect individual information that is reasonably necessary to fulfilling the purpose of the Campaign, which may include:

  • verifying the identity of individuals;
  • engaging in public outreach and communications activities, including maintaining a web and social media presence;
  • to send out Campaign information;
  • to contact individuals to ask for their support for the Campaign; and
  • to meet legal or regulatory requirements;

Limits On Collection, Use and Disclosure

The Campaign will only collect and use personal information that is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified at the time of collection or for a purpose reasonably related to the purposes identified in this policy. The Campaign will not collect, use or disclose personal information except for these purposes unless RCC receive further consent from the individual. The RCC will only collect, use or disclose personal information in accordance with PIPA and applicable electoral or other legislation. Individuals may withdraw consent to the collection, use or disclosure of their personal information at any time upon giving reasonable written notice, unless PIPA permits collection, use or disclosure without consent. Upon receiving written notice, the Campaign will inform you of the likely consequences of withdrawing your consent.  Individuals cannot withdraw consent where this would frustrate the performance of a legal obligation.

Disclosure of Personal Information

The Campaign may disclose personal information where authorized by PIPA or required by law.

From time-to-time, the Campaign retains third parties to provide services to the Campaign that involve personal information. The RCC ensures that there are agreements in place that commit third parties to providing services that adhere to our privacy policy and applicable laws. These third parties are only permitted to use your personal information for the Campaign’s purposes.

Consent To Collect, Use and Disclose Personal Information

The Campaign will get individuals’ consent to collect, use or disclose their personal information, except where the RCC are legally authorized or required by law to do so without consent. The RCC mostly collects personal information directly from individuals when they voluntarily provide this information in the course of communicating with the Campaign online, during canvassing activities, or at events.

Retention

The Campaign will only retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the identified purposes or as long as required for a legal purpose.

Accuracy

The Campaign will make reasonable efforts to ensure that individual or personal information is accurate and complete.

Individuals may write to the Campaign to request corrections to their personal information that is under the Campaign’s control. If the Campaign is satisfied that an individual’s request for correction is reasonable, the RCC will correct the personal information as soon as reasonably possible.

Access To Personal Information

Individuals have the right to access their personal information under the control of the Campaign, subject to limited exceptions. A request for access to personal information must be made in writing and must provide sufficient detail to identify the personal information being sought. The Campaign may require individuals to prove their identity before giving them access to their personal information.  Upon request, the Campaign will also provide individuals with information about the ways in which their personal information is or has been used, and, if applicable, to whom it has been disclosed.

If a request is refused in whole or in part, the Campaign will tell the applicant in writing, providing reasons for the refusal and outlining further steps that are available to the applicant.

Complaints, Access, Questions

Individuals should direct any access requests, complaints, concerns or questions regarding the Campaign’s compliance in writing to the RCC.

This policy may be amended by the Campaign at any time without notice other than the posting of such amendments on this site.
